Before you connect to your computer
  1. Use the USB cable that came with the device
  2. Make sure the device is not locked and the screen is visible - confirm that the screen timeout setting is either disabled or has a large amount of time (5 min)
  3. Make sure the device is in MTP or File Transfer mode on Android 6.0 and later. Do this in the notification drop down on your Android device.
  4. Quit or uninstall Android File Transfer
  5. Try rebooting the device
